What is a liability waiver and when is it needed?
A waiver is a valid legal tool that can be used to limit UC Merced’s liability when students or members of the public are engaged in University-sponsored activities or use University facilities. For detailed description of different kinds of waivers, please see our Waiver and Releases page.
Should employees be required to sign waivers of liability?
No, unless the employee is participating in a voluntary event that has no relation to employment with UC. An example of a non-related UC function might be a trip through Outdoor Adventures. In this instance, the employee is just considered a member of the public and should be required to sign the same forms as other participants.
